When attempting to install the Ubuntu 1804 server spin on a Dell R610 I use for labs I encountered an error. The image that is available from the main downloads page links to a live installer. When I tried to install from this image, the installer would crash and restart when trying to assign an IP address to one of the network interfaces. If I left the IP assignment method to DHCP, the interfaces could not obtain an IP address from the DHCP server. This was mildly annoying and after re-imaging the USB 3 times it was time to try something else.
I was pretty sure that it should work as I have previously installed Ubuntu 1804 on another Dell R610. This link says that they are certified. I went on a duck hunt and found this thread around installing Ubuntu 1804 without internet access. One of the answers mentioned using the standard ISO available here so I gave that a shot.
The result: SUCCESS !! The morel of the story. Always go full ISO.
